Needlepoint and fabric

“Needlepoint” is a particular set of stitching techniques worked on stiff openwork canvas. As it is stitched on a fabric that is an open grid, needlepoint is not embellishing a fabric. But literally it is the making of a new fabric. Because of this. many needlepoint stitches must be of sturdier construction than other embroidery stitches.

Needlepoint versus Tapestry

Needlepoint is often considered as “tapestry” in the United Kingdom and sometimes as “canvaswork”. However, needlepoint is stitched on canvas mesh. As a result it is different from tapestry, which is woven on a vertical loom. Also “petitpoint” is tent stitch embroidered on fine weave canvas.

Firstly expert Hardanger “Ladder” stitches double as border alongside the Petit Point floral edge. Secondly, fine thread crocheted lace trim completes the finishing touch. Every detail demonstrates high quality workmanship. For instance the edges are hand folded and hemmed with minute chevron stitches.
