Lefkaritika or Lefkara Lace is a handmade lace technique, a combination of drawn thread, whitework, and needlelace from Cyprus. Notable characteristics are the hemstitch, satin stitch fillings, needlepoint edgings, white, brown, ecru colours and geometric intricate patterns.
Woven bars, typical of filet embroidery, are also used in Lefkara lace. Picots often dot the lace that finished the outside edge of the linen. This lace is made with buttonhole stitch done by needle. Eyelets are typical in the embroidered areas.
We design this simplified version of Lefkara Lace in an oval shape tea coaster. The detailed expert embroidery adheres to the traditional basic techniques and traditional geometric style, providing affordable luxury for a cup of afternoon tea. The material is brown colour Irish linen and traditional whitework embroidery.
It is All in the Details, a picot lace surrounds the entire edge of the doily. The hand stitched with a needle of buttonhole embroidery is meticulous and aesthetic!
