The heavy Point de Venice gros point lace was not appropriate for all uses. And the delicate Point Plat de Venice, was created. Point Plat de Venice or Flat Venice Lace or Cantu Lace, is a flat needle lace without padded edges, with similar but lighter designs and more decoration. The design was almost hidden under frills of picoted rings, very finely stitched with a needle. The patterns became smaller and lighter. The flowers lost their natural look and were transformed into stylized eyelets or thick coils, although not diminished in the fine work of a needle.
