Aida cloth (sometimes called Java canvas) is an open, even-weave fabric traditionally used for cross stitch embroidery. This cotton fabric has a natural mesh that facilitates cross-stitching and enough natural stiffness that the crafter does not need to use an embroidery hoop.
Needlepoint is the technique of forming stitches on a special open-weave fabric. For this tablecloth, we select a cheerful pale yellow cotton aida cloth as the canvas. Grospoint needlework is then embroidered by handpicked skilled artisans. The finished product is a stunning display of colours.
It is remarkable how a simple & basic “tent” stitch with good design, can yield beauty affordable and functional for everyday use.
To demonstrate the accomplished workmanship, we are showing the backside image of evenly stitched peony. Note also that the cloth is hemmed and tent stitches are meticulously worked into the hem, on the cloth as well as the napkin edges.
Peony, the “King of Flowers,” looks exceptionally beautiful and vivid in Needlepoint!
